Seasonal flavours at this time of year are heavily influenced by what’s growing, as well as comfort as the nights draw in and temperatures drop. Here’s our guide to the current trending flavours to get you thinking about how to update your autumn menu…
APPLE
The sweet or sour taste of classic apples is a huge fall favourite. For many it brings with it a taste of nostalgia and memories of cider making, apple picking or granny’s secret recipe apple pie. Add an apple hit to your creations with our vegan-friendly apple crunch, or try our apple flavoured caramel pieces for a rich and moreish combination. Both products are suitable as bakery toppings or inclusions and can be used in confectionery, ice creams and cereals as well as for beverage toppings.
SALTED MAPLE
Maple is one of the rising stars of the flavour world, bringing a hit of sweet and sticky with warm, nutty, woodsy notes. Combine it with savoury salt and you get a taste sensation similar to salted caramel but with a unique, plant-based twist.
Add texture and warmth to your winter launches with our maple crunch.
CINNAMON BUN
Spicy, sweet and woody cinnamon packs a powerful punch of flavour in sweet baked goods and hot drinks. It can even bring a touch of warmth to ice cream. The use of cinnamon in food dates back to ancient Egypt and it’s known for containing antioxidants and having anti-inflammatory properties. Cinnamon buns cleverly combine the flavour of the spice with a sweet, doughy taste and typically add a nutty element into the mix, too.
Add a hit of cinnamon to your recipes with our cinnamon sugar – suitable for cinnamon bun fillings, as a coating for churros, or making cinnamon toast. Or add a spicy warmth to hot drinks and baked goods by using cinnamon crunch as a topping.
PECAN PIE
Pecan pie is a classic American treat, traditionally made as an autumn and winter holiday dish, particularly in the south. It brings a syrupy, buttery, nutty flavour with a hint of vanilla that’s set to be a big trend this autumn. Use it to flavour other types of cakes and bakes or consider in ice cream or confectionery.
PEAR
Pears are another autumn fruit flavour that’s trending this year. Their sweet and delicate flavour goes well with a host of sister flavours including cinnamon, ginger, chocolate, raspberry, apple, and vanilla. Our raspberry and pear soft chips are vegan suitable, and a great way to combine sweet pear with one of the berry flavours which are always a crowd pleaser.
PRETZEL
Salty pretzels are a favourite snack in Germany and the USA. They have a unique malty flavour that combines perfectly with something sweet. They’re often served with sweet coatings like yoghurt, strawberry, and chocolate.
Our salted pretzel granules are a great way to add this distinctive salty flavour to your products.
